Elements includes the ACR (Adobe Camera RAW). Elements’ versions of the ACR don’t have all the bells and whistles that full Photoshop’s ACR has but I’ve never had any problems processing my RAW files with it.

Here are 2 references…which probably won’t mean much to you, but “just in case”. This first one says that you’ll need ACR version 3.7 to process the RAW files from your Pentax camera.

The 2nd reference shows that both Elements 7 and Elements 9 have ACR versions that are much newer than the 3.7 you need so they’ll both work with images from your camera.

Download the RAW images from your camera to your computer. You’ll notice that you can’t see the RAW file image in Windows Photo Viewer. Some RAW file fanatics use Faststone Viewer, IrfanView or XnView to “see’ their RAW files. Open Elements. File>Open and browse to your RAW files’ location. Click on one of the RAW files (and notice that you can see an image thumbnail in Elements Open dialog) and click the Open button. The first time you use the ACR during a session, it usually takes a few extra seconds to open with your image in it.

This explanation of processing RAW files in Elements will do a better job than I can. The most useful information starts at #9 but look over 1 through 8.

Once you get used to processing RAW files, it will be fun and you’ll be able to produce jpgs that are much better processed than what you get from your camera’s processor.
